An essay concerning the theory of psychic analysis

Marie-Luise Schubert Kalsi

pp. 73-135

H. Cornelius' essay "Über Verschmelzung und Analyse"1 which was reviewed in vol. V of this journal, p. 360 ff, induced me to investigate various problems. Preliminary results of the investigations will appear in this paper. Each scientific publication is based on the trust that its content may be almost as useful for others as it is for the author's own growth in knowledge. The following communications are based on just that trust and not on a self-deceit concerning the deficiencies of that which I am able to offer at this time. By the very nature of the subject matter not all problematic points can be discussed, and most of the time, I will have to concentrate my efforts especially on those of Cornelius' discussions which demand to be critically dealt with. I consider it to be my duty to emphasize in the beginning that whatever the theory of analysis may gain from the following it must be attributed to the stimulation which his treatise put forth, even where I should be right and Cornelius wrong. If merely one single reader learns as much from my essay as I hope to have learned from Cornelius' discussions I would not think that I have wasted my efforts on these investigations.
