Continental philosophy of religion

Chad Meister

pp. 113-126

The field of philosophy of religion is not static but is flourishing and evolving in new and exciting directions. One such arena that is receiving attention among Anglo-American philosophers of religion is Continental philosophy. It is not that thinkers on the European continent have not been reflecting philosophically on religious ideas for some time; indeed they have. But their approach has been and is quite different in certain respects from the analytic approach to philosophy of religion that is the mainstream in the Anglo-American tradition. For those of us coming from the analytic side, much of the Continental work is novel, if not unusual, and the language and style are unfamiliar and curious.
